Venice | Nest Campers

Venice is unlike any other city in the world and it may just be the most romantic city in the world. It’s also one of the world’s great engineering wonders as the whole city is built on more than 100 islands in a marshy lagoon.

Start your road tip in Venice, rent a cheap camper van.

With its 150 canals, 400 bridges and magnificent 16th- and 17th-century palaces and piazzas, it is no surprise that Venice is considered one of the most visited cities in the world. The city is almost always on everyone’s “must see” list – and judging by the crowds, people do a good job of crossing it off their list!

Much of the time you'll be sharing the magic of this city with thousands of other visitors, but don't let that put you off, the tourists are there with a reason. The architecture is spectacular, the fabulous palaces and churches reflect centuries of history in what was a wealthy trading center between Europe and the Orient.

There is nothing, we repeat nothing, that is as important when you’re visiting Venice than just wandering aimlessly through the streets and alleys.

Getting lost in this narrow alleyways is a quintessential part of exploring Venice, but at some point you'll almost surely end up in Piazza San Marco, where tourists and locals stop for a coffee (we do recommend you drink it somewhere cheaper). Napoleon called this place the ‘Finest dining room of Europe’ and the view from the Piazza certainly bears this out.

You can also discover Venice as it was meant to be explored: from the water. This is touristy, overpriced and the singers belt out songs from Naples for an extra fee, but gondolas do have a special charm.
